A peer-reviewed article is reviewed and evaluated by experts in the field who make "recommendations concerning acceptance or rejection, and revision of the article" prior to being selected by the journal editor for publication (Peek & Newby, 1996, p. 110).*
When searching the Library's subscription databases, read the database descriptions to determine if it contains only peer-reviewed materials (e.g. Science Direct).
If a database contains both peer-reviewed and popular articles, choose the peer-reviewed limiter as seen in the Academic Search Premier sample advanced search below.
Databases often have the option to limit to peer reviewed on the results page as seen in the below example.
